What is SCADA?

SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) networks are utilized for industrial measurement and control systems. These networks are commonly used by electric and gas utilities, water and sewage utilities, railroads, and other critical infrastructure organizations. SCADA networks enable remote monitoring and control of an amazing variety of industrial devices, such as water and gas pumps, waste water systems, and traffic signals. The RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) is the device, located remotely, that receives the commands and information from a control point and controls a pump, fan, etc. on a local level. While at the same time enabling the user to access that remote sites performance information.

What is Telemetry?

Telemetry is usually associated with SCADA systems. It is a technique used in transmitting and receiving information or data over a medium. The information can be measurements, such as voltage, speed or flow. This information is transmitted to another location through a medium such as cable, telephone or radio. Information may come from multiple locations. A way of addressing these different sites is incorporated in the system.

When radio is your choice for RTU communications Moscad can utilize everything from standard licensed to spread spectrum radio and even wireless Ethernet. If radio is not a communication option, we can utilize most other wire-line options.
